About the Show

It’s hard being a girl!  Especially in a fairy-tale land where everyone expects you to be a damsel in distress.  Well, these four young ladies are just not having it!

Our story opens with Isadora, who doesn’t like seeming helpless after being abandoned in the forest by her father.  She much prefers feeling strong and self-sufficient, especially once she pulls an ancient sword from a stone!  Isadora soon meets Beatrice, a lady-in-waiting, who honestly finds life in the castle quite boring.  Winifred joins the spirited pair next, having always lived alone in the forest, concocting potions and practicing spells.  The trio is joined by the notorious Masked Maven, a young woman with many secrets.

Seeking excitement, the foursome journey on a comical adventure through a fairy-tale land of magic and monsters, royal fanfare and fairies, as they prove they can ably find their own way through the world, strong and independent.  Along the way, they encounter angry villagers, arrogant princes, mischievous fairies, and even a dragon or two!

Loads of tongue-in-cheek humor adds spirit to this fast-paced comedy.

Registration

Registration cost: $200. Sibling price ($180) will be automatically applied when registered at the same time.

Rehearsals begin January 6 at High Prairie.
Performances are February 14, 2026. 2pm and 7pm at Dakota Stage.

Rehearsal Schedule:

• Tuesdays from 4-6pm (High Prairie)
• Saturdays from 10am-12pm (High Prairie)
• Feb. 12 and 13 at 4pm (Dakota Stage)

Amanda Perry

Director

Amanda Perry has worked with Dakota Stage/Shade Tree Players as a director, educator, costumer, artist and actor for over 20 years, bringing diverse plays, musicals, classes and other unique theatrical experiences for all ages to the community! She is also honored to be the current Artistic Director of Dakota Stage. She is a graduate of Drake University in Des Moines, IA, and has a BFA in Theatre Performance, with emphasis in acting, directing and design.

In her career, Amanda has worked with many different arts and education organizations to educate students, train actors and directors, and create unique theatrical productions and other artistic events and opportunities. She has directed over 60 plays and musicals, most recently the DSL productions of A Dusty Echo, The Underpants, Sweeney Todd and The Crucible. Amanda also specializes in children’s theatre, and has directed many of her own adaptations of Shakespeare’s plays. She recently directed Puffs and Just Another High School Play and Alice in Wonderland with Shade Tree Players.

Amanda has two children, Oliver and Willow, who are also enthusiastically involved in Shade Tree Players! Amanda would like to thank her amazing husband for all he does while she is at rehearsal, and the cast and crew for all their hard work!

Rehearsals will be at High Prairie. Tech rehearsals and performances are held at Dakota Stage.
