Join us as we create the heartwarming nostalgia of a 1940s old-fashioned Christmas. The story you know and love is coming to Dakota Stage!

Nothing would delight Ralphie Parker more than finding a Red Ryder BB gun beneath his Christmas tree. But every attempt to secure his dream gift is met with resistance, as the adults in his life echo the same warning: “You’ll shoot your eye out.” Presented through the narration of a grown-up Ralph, this nostalgic holiday tale follows the Parker family through the season’s ups and downs, revealing whether Ralphie’s Christmas wish finally comes true.

Audition sides are below. Youth auditioners are especially encouraged to download and read through the sides to prepare for the audition.

The Children

(We are looking for children who can play between the ages of 8 and 12.)

Ralphie Parker: A wide-eyed, daydreaming boy who iobsessively tries to convince his parents to get him a Red Rider BB gun for Christmas.

Randy Parker: Ralphie’s whiny little brother whose antics are both chaotic and charming.

Flick and Schwartz: Ralphie’s two best friends and his partners in mischief. Flick is the more gullible of the two.

Esther Jane Alberry: Sweet and shy, has a crush on Ralphie.

Helen Weathers: Esther’s best friend. Outspoken and a bit of a know-it-all.

Scut Farkas: The neighborhood bully. Nothing gives him more pleasure than making Ralphie and his friends miserable.

The Adults

Ralph: Adult Ralphie who serves as our narrator, guiding us through all the nostalgia of a 1940s holiday season.

Mother: A warm, pragmatic form of calm amid the holiday chaos. Her quiet strength, quick wit, and unconditional love keep the family stitched together.

The Old Man: Ralphie’s gruff, contest-loving dad whose blustery temper and colorful vocabulary eventually give way to reveal a warm tenderness toward his sons.

Miss Sheilds: Ralphie’s smart but sympathetic teacher. Her no-nonsense demeanor and dramatic flair make her a figure of authority and unwitting participant in Ralphie’s daydreams.

Santa Claus: The jolly old elf himself makes a cameo appearance.
