Summer Programs at Shade Tree Players

Shade Tree Players offers two engaging summer theater experiences for young performers of all skill levels. Whether your child is just getting started or ready for a more advanced production, our Academy and Conservatory programs provide a fun, supportive environment to build confidence, creativity, and stage skills—all while putting on a full production.

Academy Summer Program (Ages 7–13)

Students entering grades 2–8 in the fall are invited to participate in a five-week theatrical experience each summer. With two play sessions and two musical sessions, families can choose the schedule that works best.

Rehearsals and performances take place in the Imagination Theater at the Frances Leach High Prairie Arts & Science Complex (1810 Schafer Street, Bismarck).

  • No separate auditions—casting takes place during the first week of rehearsals

  • Registration and full payment are required prior to participation

  • Registration closes May 15

Parents should monitor email throughout the summer for updates on volunteer opportunities, promotions, and performance details.

Conservatory Summer Program (Ages 13–18)

Students entering grades 8–12 (including recent graduates) can participate in a full-scale production, choosing between one play and one musical based on their interests.

  • Auditions are held in February and March; all who audition will be cast

  • Casting is announced approximately three weeks after final auditions

  • Registration and payment (or arrangements) are required to receive a role

  • Second-round auditions may be held for any remaining roles

Rehearsals culminate in a fully staged production, offering a more advanced and immersive theater experience.
